Continuing video production of film and tv industry interviews - Michael is a veteran of Popcorn Taxi since Feb 2000. As well as setting up the lighting in the upstairs and downstairs theatre, he initiated the video and stills archive, shot all the shows (over 130 to date), and also maintained the website for a couple of years. Directors appearing at Popcorn Taxi have included Baz Luhrmann, Gillian Armstrong, Phillip Noyce, Vincent Ward, Andrew Dominic, Kimble Rendall, and overseas directors such as Anthony Minghella, Rob Cohen as well as cinematographers such as Don McAlpine, John Seale, Russell Boyd, Chris Doyle and many others.

  • November 2001 - DVD for Vincent Ward
    Michael was commissioned by Vincent Ward (director of 'What Dreams May Come' & 'The Navigator') to create a six minute proof-of-concept trailer for his next movie. The DVD accompanied the script in funding pitches in London and Hollywood.

  • March to May 2002 - TAFE NSW ITAM
    Consultancy on multimedia curriculum.

  • October 2001 - My Life In Art
    Set and lighting design for an independant theatre production staged at the Bondi Pavillion Theatre. The play was directed by Malcolm Frawley and starred Annalouise Paul, Luke Rex, Patrick Ward, and Nicholas Papademetriou.

  • January to June 2001 - Three Bears Media
    Consultant and Multimedia Producer for a CD-ROM and website for AiGroup and DETYA. The project outlined the scope of Engineering professions and job opportunities in Australia.

  • 2000 - Elton Ward Photography and Design
    Consultant and Multimedia Producer for a touch screen kiosk for ANZ Bank installed at Martin Place, Sydney.

  • 2000 - UTS Design Studio
    Part-time Multimedia Manager and web designer.

    Part-time teacher (Screen Design for Interactivity).

  • 1999-2000 - Westpac Financial Services
    VRX designed a two hour multimedia show which toured around Australia with very successful results in terms of audience enjoyment and resulting sales.


  • 1993 to 2000 - Creative Director - Virtual Realm Xchange
    Production services for animation, multimedia CD-ROMs, video productions, web sites and live events. Clients included Sydney City Council, Aston James International, Cordukes Builders, EPA NSW, DEF FX, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and The Electoral Commission amongst others.

Starting in 1993 The University of Sydney was VRX's first major client and the relationship continued for many years. In February 1996, VRX completed an update to "SYDNEY-ROM". This was the second revision of a CD-ROM for The University of Sydney which contained an interactive Student Prospectus with extensive audio and graphic content. This revision was based on VRX's first CD-ROM for the university in 1994, especially to incorporate the first release of Quicktime VR in an Australian CD-ROM, as well as a linked database containing thousands of entries of course information.

  • 1997 - Faculty of Medicine
    VRX completed a multi-platform production (with unified design) comprising two 15 minute docu-drama videos, a hybrid (Mac/PC) CD-ROM, and a web site. The project spanned nine months with a crew of twelve, and involved digital video editing and cross-platform multimedia tools.

    VRX completed the interactive programming and interface design of a touch-screen multimedia kiosk for Tim Becker Productions commissioned, available to the general public at the Sydney Town Hall "One Stop Shop". The project utilised 600 megabytes of audio and graphics, plus numerous MPEG videos. Graphic design by Guy Jeffrey, and audio engineering by DAT Studios, with technical on-site setup by John Crawford.

  • 1986-87 - The Crystal Visionary
    Edited, co-wrote, designed and self-published this magazine, which grew rapidly in popularity. It was later compiled into 365 page book, including 8 colour pages of original photography. Travelled USA and conducted interviews with various authors and workshop leaders.
  • 1986 - Audio Visual Presentation
    Toured schools in Sydney and NSW with "The Third Spectrum", an original 55 minute slide show of colour in nature with soundtrack; a preview of multimedia yet to come.

  • 1983-86 - Photographic Studio and B/W Laboratory
    Operated "Midnite Stills" with regular clients such as Retail World, One Stop Photo and various public relations/advertising agencies.

  • 1983 - Television
    Props for TEN-10 for the soap-opera "Arcade".

  • 1981-83 - Photographic Printing
    Hanimex, Brookvale, (while attending North Sydney Tech TVCP). Also colour photographic printing for ColorTeknic, and BW printing for Leica Photo Service.
